No Special Status for AP: Union Minister

Update: 2016-04-30 04:37 GMT
Union Minister of State for Home Affairs HP Chaudhary told Rajya Sabha that AP doesn't require Special Category Status as Centre has been fulfilling all the promises listed in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014. He made these remarks during the debate on private member's bill in the Upper House.

Mr.Chaudhary recalls 14th Finance Commission not recommending Special Category Status to any state in the Country. At the same time, The Union Minister told Union Government is committed to extend financial support to AP and the allocations will be based on the report of NITI Aayog. He also informed Centre has sanctioned funds for AP capital Amaravati and 7 backward districts of the state.

How would AP Government respond to the declaration of Union Minister regarding the Special Category Status? Should Andhrites give up the hope of receiving Special Status after Chaudhary's statement in Rajya Sabha? What about the tall promises made by Narendra Modi, Venkaiah Naidu and Arun Jaitley before 2014 polls?
