As per Census 2011, The social evil 'Child Marriages' has been still practiced in the Telugu States.
Between the period 2007 to 2011, About 4,53,030 Girls aged 16 to 17 got married. While 72,569 girls fall in the age group 14 to 15, The count for age groups 10 to 11 and below 10 were 572 and 107 respectively. This indicates that over five lakhs girls in AP and Telangana got married even before attaining legal marriage age. The legal age for girls to get married is 18 in India.
According to the official data, About 1,38,499 boys in the age group 18-19 got married between 2007 to 2011. Even this trend is against the law of the land and comes under violation of legal age for boys.
Its high time the ruling Governments focus on ending this social evil at least now.
