In what it could be a shocker, a recent study carried out by a  leading life science research establishment has claimed that Telangana Capital city Hyderabad could have around 6.6 lakh potential pandemic infections.

The survey was conducted as a collaborative approach by the researchers of the Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) and the Indian Institute of Chemical Technology (IICT).

The researchers said the 6.6 lakh potential infections comprise of symptomatic, asymptomatic patients, and also the patients who managed to recover from the respiratory disease.

Some media reports claimed Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) Director Dr. Rakesh Mishra as our sample-based study indicated that a lion share of people affected with the virus is asymptomatic. Based on their immunity power, they need not be hospitalized.

As the sewage samples of the  SARS-CoV-2 virus are not infectious, the researches used the sewage samples for the study to estimate the rate of the virus spread in the capital city.

It is believed that pandemic infected patients shed the virus through faeces too as well as through nasal and oral routes through. That's why the researchers included the sewage samples for the study.
