A youth from Hyderabad duped online shopping giant Flipkart of Rs 20 lakhs.Going into details 32-year-old Veera Swamy of Vanasthalipuram allegedly cheated the online shopping portal by taking advantage of the flexible return policy of the e-commerce portal.
He used to place orders with different names of his family members and sometimes other people of his neighbourhood. After receiving the delivery Swamy would call the customer care and complain about the poor quality of the products.
Veera Swamy kept the actual item with him and replaced it with a replica of poor quality.For not getting caught he used the same box with the model number and code and returned it to the company representative.He also created fake email addresses and several fake bank accounts. Once Flipkart people received the item, the money would be credited to the respective accounts.
Swamy doing this from last twenty months and he made more than 200 purchases in this way. After growing suspicious Flipkart lodged a complaint with the Vanasthalipuram Police. As per flipkart the company has incurred a loss of Rs 20 lakh in the entire process.
