Rapes, Gangrapes, drugs, pub culture: Hyderabad's image takes a beating
The image of Hyderabad as a happening city has taken a beating specially after the spate of sexual offences have seen the light of the day. The spate of incidents has tarnished the city's iconic stature as an investment destination. Especially, the incident involving a minor Romanian girl, who was allegedly raped by four VIP kids, has undone the image so assiduously cultivated by both KCR and KTR.
The high incidence of drug abuse, peddling of psychotropic substances, murders, rape and sexual abuse has affected the image of the city. Shockingly, these incidents are happening soon after KTR has returned from a high profile visit to Davos to attract big ticket investments for the state.
As if the Amnesia Pub incident, in which a Romanian girl and wards of an MLA and a minister are allegedly involved, was not enough, Sunday witnessed two more gender crimes. In one incident, a minor girl was repeatedly raped in the Pahadi Sharif area of the old city. In another incident, two taxi drivers, waylaid a minor girl and raped her in the Talaabkatta area.
The opposition is blaming the incidents on the lax law and order situation. The BjP has said that the TRS was unable to act in the Amnesia Pub incident because it was afraid of annoying the MIM. It said the TRS was hand in glove with the perpetrators of the heinous crime as they were linked to a particular community.
