Like the other states, Andhra Pradesh too celebrated the 73rd Republic Day on January 26. The event was held in an elaborate manner. However, more than the Republic Day celebrations, the behavior of an Indian Administrative Service (IAS) at the event became the talk of the town.

After the Republic Day celebrations, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy called Principal Secretary Praveen Prakash. Upon being called by the Chief Minister, the senior IAS officer went on to his knees and had a word with Jagan Mohan Reddy.

This happened when the Chief Minister spoke to the IAS officers on stage after the celebrations. As Jagan Mohan Reddy sat in front, he called the Principal Secretary and he approached the CM and was spotted talking with him by going on to his knees.

The incident had caught up in a controversy as the senior IAS spoke to the Chief Minister on his knees. The controversial incident had raised many eyebrows and made everything instantly remember a similar incident from the neighboring state.

It has to be mentioned here that earlier we saw two IAS officers touching the feet of Telangana Rashtra Samithi(TRS) chief, Telangana Chief Minister Kalvakuntla Chandrashekar Rao. On two different occasions, the IAS officers fell on the feet of the Chief Minister.

The incidents did not sit with many people and the opposition parties in the state lashed out at the District Collectors and the ruling party over the issue. The parties came down severely on the ruling outfit for dragging the District Collectors into politics. This happened in the presence of other dignitaries.

The Collectors touching the feet of Chief Ministers at the event that was covered by the media channels created an uproar and the Collectors had raised a new opinion that they might make their way into politics.

Making the reports and opinion on their political entry of the District Collectors, former Siddipet District Collector P Venkatrama Reddy had resigned from his position and joined the ruling outfit TRS. Later he was given a chance by the Telangana Rashtra Samithi as an MLC under the MLA Quota.
