Using the technological advancements in health care could improves the productivity. Researchers at the Indian Institute of Public Health (IIPH) in Hyderabad are right now working in this direction.

IIPH Research Team is testing drones (unmanned aerial vehicles) to transport drugs to chronic patients on monthy basis. The picture shown above is shot when a drone is tested on a pilot basis at a Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Moinabad. Currently, The Researchers are testing drone named Phantom which could lift just 500 grams of medicines.

Drones could be used to transport the drugs from Central Warehouse to the PHC and from there to the Sub-Centres and then to the patients doorsteps. If Drones were used extensively, Patients living in rural areas need not visit the district hospitals or health centres for testing. Either ASHA or ANM can reach the patient's house, collect the samples and transport them to laboratories using drones.
