Allopathy Remarks Row: IMA Slaps Baba Ramdev with Rs 1000 crore defamation notice
Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev's controversial remarks over allopathy, scientific medicine created a sensation across the nation. His statements did not go well with the apex body of Indian doctors, the Indian Medical Association(IMA).
Finding fault with the Yoga Guru, the IMA slapped him with a defamation notice for Rs 1,000 crore. The defamation notice was slapped by the Uttarakhand wing of the IMA.
In the notice, the IMA asked the Yoga Guru to post a video that counters the earlier statements he made on allopathy. Besides this, he should give a written apology. He has to do this in 15 days, or else he has to pay the defamation amount.
Earlier last week, Ramdev kickstarted a controversy by making controversial remarks against allopathy doctors. Following this, a legal notice was served to the Yoga Guru on Saturday last week.
After the notice, Baba Ramdev has written a letter to Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan in which he said: "We do not oppose modern medical science and allopathy. We believe that allopathy has shown immense progress in surgery and the lifesaving system and served humanity. My statement has been quoted as part of a WhatsApp message that I was reading during a meeting of volunteers. I am sorry if it has hurt anyone's sentimentâ.
Now the IMA slapped a defamation case against Baba Ramdev. It is interesting to know whether the Yoga Guru would take a back step in this regard and give an apology. Let us wait and see what happens.
