Hailing from Tamil Nadu, a politically active state, legendary music director Ilaiyaraaja has some strong political views. Despite landing in a few controversies and unwanted situations, he did not shy away from making his opinion out. Going by the same nature, he made a few sensational claims.
Ilaiyaraaja, who is also called Isaignani, had made many heads turn by drawing a comparison between the father of the Indian Constitution B. R. Ambedkar, and the current Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Writing a foreword in a book, he had mentioned the similarities between the two personalities.
In the released book Ambedkar & Modi: Reformers ideas, Performers implementation, Ilaiyaraaja had written the foreword. In the same, he had mentioned the similarities both personalities share. The ruling DMK in Tamil Nadu had raised their objections to this and asked how come the Music director can pass such statements.
"Both dreamt big for India and both are practical men who believe in action rather than mere thought exercises," Ilayaraja said in his foreword.
Amid this, a new opinion had started that impressed with the statements made by Ilaiyaraaja, the Union government led by Bharatiya Janata Party is making plans to nominate him to Rajya Sabha. The work for the same is being done and we might hear news from the government soon.
Another reason that is working in favour of the singer is that BJP Rajya Sabha member Subramanian Swamy's tenure as a Parliamentarian is coming to an end. As Swamy is troubling the party as a thorn in the flesh, BJP is looking for his replacement. Ilayaraja made the comments amid this speculation.
All these developments raise doubt about BJP sending ace Music composer Ilayaraja to the Upper House as a nominated candidate. If the news appears to be true, then the legendary singer will add an illustrious feather to his glorious cap. As a music director, he has won many many hearts and enjoys a good reputation for his work.
We have to wait and see if the BJP is really in such planning or not. If yes, how would the legendary music director react to the opportunity? Only time has an answer to this. Let us wait and see what happens next.
