India, which is in the second place in the list of worst-affected nations globally with the Covid-19 outbreak, has been registering more than 20,000 fresh Coronavirus infections for a few days.
Based on the information provided by the Union Health Ministry, not less than 23,067 fresh Covid-19 infections were detected in the past 24 hours, which takes the total toll of cases to 10,146,845.
On the other hand, 336 people have breathed their last battling the respiratory disease in the span of 24 hours, taking the total fatalities in connection with the pandemic to 1,47,091.
Looking at the total Covid-19 recoveries in the country, a total of 97,17,834 patients have been recovered so far, including 24,661 fresh recoveries registered in the past 24 hours. The active cases stood at 2,81,919.
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) said, as of 24 December, a total of 16,63,05,762 samples have been tested, while 9,97,396 samples were tested on Thursday alone.
