India Facing Worst Water Crisis: NITI Aayog

NITI Aayog said India is currently facing worst water crisis ever in the history. As much as 600 million Indians have been facing extreme water shortage. Shockingly, Two Lakh People have been dying per year because of lack of access to portable water.

The Government Think Tank projects water crisis will get worse as India's water demand is expected to be twice the availability by 2030. Which means, Majority of the people in the country will be facing water scarcity and it results in a loss of India's GDP by up to 6 percent.

As per 'Composite Water Management Index', 21 Major Cities are likely to run out of ground water by 2020. Around 100 million people will be affected by this shortage.

NITI Aayog offered rankings to the States based on their Composite Water Management. While Gujarat holds top spot, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharashtra have been in Top 5. States like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan and Haryana performed very low.
