India records massive surge in fresh Covid infections with nearly 90k cases

A day after reporting more than 81,000 new pandemic infections, Indian added record single-day infections since September 20 in the past 24 hours with more than 89,000 cases.

India witnessed not less than 89,129 new coronavirus infections, the record single-day cases since the second wave has started in the Country. The last time India witnessed a massive surge in infections was on September 20 with 92,605 infections.

Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Delhi, and Haryana are the major contributors of the pandemic cases and deaths.

With India seeing a massive rise in th fresh infections, the country's toll of infections rose to 12,392,260. India now has the fifth-highest number of active cases with 658,909.

On the other hand, India witnessed the highest single-day fatalities caused by the pandemic with not less than 714 casualties taking the total toll of pandemic deaths to 164,141.

According to the data issued by the Union Health Ministry, Maharashtra (2,904,076), Kerala (1,124,584), Karnataka (997,004), Andhra Pradesh (901,989), and Tamil Nadu (886,673) are the top-five worst-hit states in the country.
