India's Lovlina Borgohain Restricted To Bronze In Olympics After Losing Semis

Indian boxer Lovlina Borgohain had ended her journey at the Tokyo Olympics with a bronze medal as she was defeated by the world champion Busenaz Surmeneli in the semis.

Lovlina was overpowered by the world champion Busenaz Surmeneli in the semis by 5-0. Lovlina Borgohain had huge expectations that she would bring gold home, but she was restricted to bronze.

The bronze medal won by Lovlina Borgohain in the semis is the third medal for the country at the semis. She flicked horns with Turkey's Busenaz Surmeneli in the semis in the women's welterweight (64-69kg) category.

Despite losing the match, the Indian boxer scripted history to become the third boxer from the country to win an Olympic medal. Legendary boxers Mary Kom and Vijender Singh had won bronze in 2012 and 2008 respectively.

Lovlina had also had her fair share of difficulties to make it to the Olympics. She caught the deadly Covid and fought with the virus and recovered from the respiratory disease.
