Sri Lanka has witnessed two painful events today. Their dream of lifting the World Cup came to a tame end as South Africans thrashed an unusually hapless Lankans by 9 wickets in the quarter finals.The second blow is its two star players Kumar Sangakkara and Mahela Jayawardene announced their retirement.
Both Jayawardene and Sangakkara had announced their retirement. Indian legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar applauded Sri Lankan veterans . Sachin tweeted Well done on glorious ODI careers @KumarSanga2 & @MahelaJay Being an integral part of the ODI side for so many years,it is difficult to imagine Sri Lanka Team without Sangakkara and Jayawardene.
Mahela Jayawardene has played 448 ODIs and made total 12, 650 runs including 19 centuries and 77 half-centuries in his career. Sangakkara has played total 404 ODIs and made total 14, 234 runs including 25 centuries and 93 half-centuries in his career. His highest score is 169 runs and average score is 41.98 runs.
Sri Lanka was all out in 37.2 overs. South African team has crossed that target in just 18 overs with one wicket loss.Tributes also poured in from other international stars
