Wait Period For Green Card - 151 Years?

Cato Institute, a Washington-based Think-Tank, calculated the wait time for obtaining Green Card in US based on the number of issuances in 2017. According to it, The wait time for some Indians has gone up to 151 percent due to 7 percent per country rule.

By April 20th this year, As many as 63,219 Indian Immigrants have been waiting for Green Cards.

Shortest wait period (Six Years) is for EB-1 Immigrants who are highly skilled and possess extraordinary ability. About 34,824 Indian Applicants exist under EB-1 Category. 83,578 Indians are in race for Green Card in EB-1 Category.

EB-2 with advanced degrees will have to wait for much more years than those seeking Green Card in EB-3 category. They should be waiting for 151 years. Why means, Almost no chance of obtaining Green Card under this category. Altogether, 4,33,368  Indians are in race for Green Card in EB-2 Category.

EB-3 Immigrants with Bachelor's Degrees will have to wait for about 17 Years. About 54,892 Indian Applicants exist under this Category. As much as 1,15,273 Indians are in race for Green Card in EB-3 Category.

Green Card was sanctioned to 22,602 Indians in 2017. While 13,082 out of them were in EB-1 Category, About 2,879 in EB-2 and 6,641 in EB-3 Category got lucky.
