Shiv Sena MP Says Indira Gandhi Used To Meet Don Karim Lala

Maharashtra MP, Shiv Sena's senior leader Sanjay Raut's recent comments created a sensation in the political circles. The MP recently said that former Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi used to meet don Karim Lala in Mumbai.

Raut, who was an ex-journalist has recalled the underworld days in Mumbai and said, Dawood Ibrahim, Chhota Shakeel, and Sharad Shetty used to have great control over the metropolis areas.

In a recent interview given to a media channel, Raut said that the gangsters used to decide who will be the police commissioner.

"When Haji Mastan used to come to 'Mantralaya', the entire 'Mantralaya' would come down to see him. Indira Gandhi used to come to meet Karim Lala in Pydhonie (in south Mumbai)," Raut said.

"Those were the days of the underworld. Later, everybody (dons) fled the country. Now there is nothing like that," he added.

Talking about the most dreaded gangster Dawood Ibrahim, he said he had even clicked pictures of the gangster back then when the MP was a journalist. The MP went on to say that, once he had even berated Dawood Ibrahim.

"I have seen him, I have met him, I have spoken to him and I have also admonished him," Raut observed.
