Mahbubnagar has always been a strong citadel for the BJP. It had performed very well in several constituencies and garnered significant share of votes. In the last Lok Sabha elections too, DK Aruna, who joined the BJP from the Congress, lost by a very small margin. That being the case, one expected the party to go on the upswing the moment young, dynamic fighter Bandi Sanjay took over as the state president.
But, the reverse seems to be happening. The party is not just a divided house, but is even washing its dirty linen in public. This is casting serious doubts in the minds of the voters as well as the diehard party supporters. Recently when Bandi Sanjay came on a tour of Mahabubnagar, there was lot of hype and hoopla. But, there was also severe infighting. Several senior leaders have tried to marginalize party's district president and former MLA Erra Satyam, who was made the party president only recently. The oldtimers and seniors have not cooperated with him and his photo was not put up prominently in the party's publicity material.
Upset by this, Satyam submitted his resignation in haste. This happened even as the public meeting of Bandi Sanjay was going on. This sent shock waves among the leaders, including DK Aruna and former MP AP Jitender Reddy. They somehow managed to patch up and make Erra Stayam withdraw his resignation. In fact, even Bandi Sanjay had to speak to him over phone to placate him. As of now, things are looking slightly cool. But, the differences continue to simmer in the district and all is definitely not well in Mahabubnagar
