3 Years Jail Term for Triple Talaq

Update: 2017-12-02 06:55 GMT
The Supreme Court has disapproved the practice of Triple Talaq or Talaq-e-Biddat three month ago and suggested the Centre to bring a Law to this effect for the well-being of the Muslim Women.

Finally, Union Government has come up with a draft law which makes Triple Talaq a cognizable and non-bailable offence. The offence is punishable with 3 years jail and a monetary fine.

The draft law by name Muslim Women (Protection of Rights on Marriage) Act will permit the Woman who was given Triple Talaq to approach court for providing allowance for herself and children, apart from the custody of the minor children. This Bill will be tabled in the Winter Session of Parliament.

New Law is applicable to instant Triple Talaq in 'oral, written, electronic or any other form'. The proposed Law was finalized after discussions by a Group of Ministers which include Home Minister Rajnath Singh, Arjun Jaitley and Sushma Swaraj.
