Andhra Pradesh Government is leaving no stone unturned to obtain International status for Gannavaram airport which is near the proposed new Capital of the state.
The Infrastructure Corporation of Andhra Pradesh (Incap) has handed over the responsibility of conducting a survey on the domestic passenger traffic from Gannavaram airport to a Private Consultant. On the other hand, Authorities of Gannavaram Airport has been conducting a study to estimate the capacity of International Passenger Traffic and Cargo.
Once the survey is done, AP Cabinet will pass the proposal approving International status for Gannavaram airport and forwards it to Union Civil Aviation Ministry for final clearance.
Gannavaram Airport which falls in Category C has to acquire Category F for International Status. Authorities have already began expansion works to match the Global standards at Gannavaram Airport. While the Airport covers more than 500 acres, Plans were in place to acquire nearly 500 acres more for the expansion. If this airport attains International status, Andhrites will travel directly from Gannavaram instead of Hyderabad and Chennai.
