The Supreme Court today granted bail to former Union Minister P Chidambaram in the INX Media money laundering case filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

The judgment delivered by the Bench of Justices R Banumathi, AS Bopanna, and Hrishikesh Roy comes after P Chidambaram spent over 100 days in custody in relation to the INX Media case. Putting some conditions on bail, Supreme Court said P Chidambaram should not temper with the evidence and not influence the witnesses. He should also not give press interviews or make public statements in connection with this case. SC directed Chidambaram to furnish a bail bond of Rs 2 lakhs along with 2 sureties of the same amount. SC also said Chidambaram can not travel abroad without the Court's permission.

Chidambaram was first arrested by the CBI on August 21 in the INX Media corruption case and was granted bail by the top court on October 22.

The ED had arrested him on October 16 in the money laundering case. CBI had registered a corruption case in this regard in May 2017. Later that year, the ED also lodged a money laundering case.
