Is KCR looking for leaders from the Velama and Koppula Velama communities to lead the party in Andhra Pradesh? Velamas are few in number in AP, but Koppula Velamas are numerically stronger in North Coastal Andhra and Rajahmundry city. KCR is said to be eyeing Koppula Velama leaders from both the TDP and the YSRCP.
Among the tallest Koppula Velama leaders are TDP's Kinjarapu Atchen Naidu and YSRCP's Dharmana Prasada Rao. Kinjarapu family has proved its political mettle even amidst the YSRCP typhoon in the 2019 elections. Not only Atchen won, his brother Yerran Naidu's son Rammohan Naidu has become an MP. Atchen's daughter Adireddy Bhavani managed to sail through from Rajahmundry defeating two-time MLA Routh Suryaprakasa Rao.
Sources also say that Dharmana Prasada Rao is an unhappy man despite being made a minister. He is said to be unhappy at not being given a free hand in the government. Similarly, his brother Dharmana Krishna Das too is unhappy at losing the ministerial post. It is being said that KCR is eyeing these two leaders too.
Sources say that KCR has already identified a former minister to lead the party. He is likely to focus on the three north Andhra districts, where the Velama and Koppula Velama communities are in considerable influence. This leader was in the Congress Party and played a key role in politics for several years.
