It's Defeated-But-Sitting Vs Newly-Elected In GHMC

Update: 2020-12-17 04:30 GMT
The GHMC is facing a strange situation these days. Like never before, the GHMC has two kinds of corporators – corporators who had recontested and lost and corporators who have won afresh. With the BjP winning 48 seats, the GHMC officials have a new problem.

The sitting corporators who have been defeated still have tenure up to February 10. So, they continue to the corporators despite being defeated. They are now bringing pressure on the GHMC officials for works, contracts etc. But the newly elected BJP leaders are strongly objecting to this. They are claiming that since they have been elected, their word should prevail.

The BJP corporators in LB Nagar, who have literally swept away the TRS in all the constituencies, are already up in arms over defeated candidates being invited for official functions. They are accusing sitting TRS MLA Devireddy Sudhir Reddy of bringing pressure on the GHMC officials. Similarly, the corporators who have won from the divisions under the Gosha Mahal constituency too are upset with defeated corporators being invited to official programmes. On Wednesday, Raja Singh raised this issue at a meeting organised to felicitate the newly elected corporators.

This tug of war between the defeated-but-sitting corporators and the newly-elected corporators is turning out to be source of headache for the GHMC officials.
