Bollywood renowned lyricist Javed Akhtar spoke in an emotional manner during his farewell speech in Rajya Sabha.
Taking a dig at MIM Chief Asaduddin Owaisi who was reluctant to raise the slogan 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' saying Constitution doesn't stipulate it, Javed Akhtar questioned the Hyderabad MP: 'Does Constitution stipulate that one should wear a Sherwani?'.
The Lyricist even recited the slogan 'Bharat Mata Ki Jai' couple of times during his 15 minute speech.
Javed Akhtar asked Should India become a Nation where people are killed in the name of religion or the Nation where a film like 'Last Temptation of Christ' can be made. He opined democracy can't exist without secularism and that's a great achievement of India. He also said Secularism doesn't mean protecting one community.
