The Actress-turned-Politician who was AIADMK's Propaganda Secretary then stood beside the mortal remains of MGR at Rajaji Hall for 21 hours in a white saree. When she tried to get on the vehicle carrying MGR's body during the funeral procession, The 38-Year-Old was assaulted by the Group backing MGR's Wife Janaki. In fact, Janaki's nephew Deepan hit her on the forehead, forcibly thrown out and also abused her using unparliamentary words. She went to her residence in her Contessa after being unable to accompany MGR's funeral procession.

In an interview to a leading Tabloid, Jayalalithaa shared about her bad experience on the day when MGR breathed his last. 'A friend woke up me on December 24th, 1987 to say MGR passed away. Soon, I rushed to his residence but I wasn't allowed inside. Got down from the car and kept hitting the main door of the house. Finally, The door was opened. People kept slamming the doors on my face to ensure I don't even catch a glimpse of the deceased leader. When I was waiting outside the door of MGR's room on 3rd floor, Someone informed Me that the body taken to Rajaji Hall through the back door. Soon after noticing MGR's body inside the ambulance, I ran behind it. Then, I got into my car and asked my driver not to allow any other vehicle get in between our vehicle and ambulance. I stood beside my leader's body 13 hours on Day 1 and 8 hours on Day 2,' she reveals.

Jayalalithaa shared that nearly 8 women who stood beside her on second day deliberately began stamping on her feet. They started hurting her with their nails and attacked her everywhere, except the face. Even she wasn't allowed inside, when the last rites of MGR were performed inside Rajaji Hall.
