Its been a few days since Mohammed Zubair, who claims himself as a Fact-Checker was arrested and sent to four-day police remand. A local court allowed the Delhi Police to take him into custody in connection with an old case. The issue reached the High Court in the national capital Delhi.
Mohammed Zubair challenged his arrest by the cops and knocked on the doors of the High Court and the court issued directives to the Delhi Court for their response to the petition filed.
His arrest created a big uproar as many are dubbing the arrest as an attack on freedom of journalism in the country. The opposition parties say that he was arrested just because he is busting the fake information that is circulated by the BJP and its supporters.
Looking at the timeline of the case, he was arrested on the 27th of last month and produced before a lower court in Punjab. Initially, the court said yes to the custody of one day, which was later incensed to four long days.
The four-day police custody will end on Saturday and as per the procedure, he will be produced before the lower court again. A case has been slapped against him accusing him of hurting the sentiments of the Hindu community.
A few years back, he reportedly made a tweet against a Hindu god that had hurt the sentiments. After a Twitter user who saw the tweet approached the police, he was arrested.
