Reliance Jio used the photograph of Prime Minister Narendra Modi in its print and electronic advertisements without prior permission. This move stirred a controversy and Opposition began question if Modi is the business partner or brand ambassador of Reliance.
Minister of State for I&B Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore made it clear that PMO hasn't granted permission for using Modi's photo in advertisements. He also told that Centre wasn't aware of misuse of PM's photograph by Reliance.
Interestingly, Just Rs 500 fine was imposed against Reliance Jio The Emblems and Names (Prevention of Improper Use) Act 1950.
Opposition Parties raised the issue of PM Modi's photographs featuring in adverts of Paytm e-wallet. Does these companies care the minimal penalty for misuse of emblem and name?
