Justice Mahmud Jamal creates history as first non-white person to get nominated to Canada SC
Justice Mahmud Jamal, who was nominated to the Canada Supreme Court has created history by becoming the first non-white to do so. No person of colour was nominated earlier.
Mahmud Jawal was nominated to the Supreme Court by Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.Justice Jamal will fit in the place of Justice Rosalie Abella on July 1, once the House of Commons justice committee gives its nod for the same.
The Prime Minister made the historical nomination through microblogging site Twitter and opined that Justice Jamal will be a valuable asset to the Court.
"He'll be a valuable asset to the Supreme Court -- and that's why, today, I'm announcing his historic nomination to our country's highest court," the Prime Minister tweeted.
Justice Jamal has been serving as the Ontario Court of Appeal judge since 2019.Earlier, he had taught the students at two leading law schools in the country.
Tracing back his roots, 54-year-old was born in Kenya's Nairobi in a Ismaili Muslim household.His parents has their roots from India.He moved to Canada in 1981
