Ahead of the by-elections in Madhya Pradesh, the Election Commission of India has shocked former Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath by stripping his "star campaigner" status.

It is believed that the former Chief Minister knocked on the doors of the top court challenging the election body's decision to revoke his status as a star campaigner.

Kamal Nath, who appeared before the Apex court said, it's the party's right to select a person as a star campaigner for the campaigning. The election body's decision will breach the fundamental right of expression and movement, media reports claimed.

It has been widely reported that the former Chief Minister told the Supreme Court that he didn't receive any notice from the Election Commission over the status revoke.

The election commission stripped the star campaigner status of Kamal Nath on the grounds of violating the model code of conduct repeatedly. The election body said the leader has breached ethical behavior too.

Kamal Nath, who has campaigned for Congress candidate Suresh Raje for the by-polls addressed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Imarti Devi as "item". This created quite a stir.

When asked about the controversial remark, Kamal Nath tried to explain the context, he used the remark and openly said that he will not apologize for the remarks, reports said.
