Kamala Harris' Vogue Magazine Cover Sparks Controversy

Update: 2021-01-11 07:08 GMT
The United States of America is all set to welcome a new President and Vice President. With Joe Biden becoming the 46th president of the US, the nation will see a woman of colour taking the Vice President position for the first time in the history. Ahead of the swearing-in, the popular Vogue Magazine had Harris on its cover.

The magazine's February cover featuring Kamala Harris triggered whitewashing controversy. In the two images that were released by the magazine, one was full-length with a glossy pink background and the other with gold backdrop with Harris in casual pant-suit and sneaker.

While the editors of the magazine would have been satisfied with the final product, that was not the case with netizens. They criticised the cover mostly for whiten her face which did not go well with the internet. Kamala Harris is of Indian and Jamaican descent and has lighter skin. Even the VP' team has reacted to the controversy with the pictures as they weren't what both sides had accepted upon.
