Kamal's Effect: Centre forms a Committee

Update: 2013-02-12 06:02 GMT
The controversy over the ban on Viswaroopam in Tamilnadu came as a wake up call to the Central Government.

On Monday, Information and Broadcasting Ministry constituted a judicial committee to review the existing Cinematograph Act with an intention to ensure that movies willn't face any release hurdles once they got the clearance from the censor Board.

The eight-member committee is headed by retired Chief Justice of Delhi High Court. Film actress Sharmila Tagore and noted writer Javed Akhar too were included in the panel.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tiwari's sole aim now is to make sure that Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) decision is implemented by the state governments.

As per the Constitution, Centre has got the powers to certify a film to be fit or unfit for screening. Once CBFC comes to final conclusion, states need to implement the decision.
