Karunanidhi Can't Be Buried At Marina Beach

Update: 2018-08-07 17:38 GMT
DMK sought Tamil Nadu Government permission for burying M Karunanidhi next to the grave of his mentor & party founder CN Annadurai at Anna Square memorial on Marina Beach in Chennai. Earlier, Chief Ministers CN Annadurai, MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa were laid to rest at the Marina Beach.

However, AIADMK Government turned down the demand of DMK to bury it's patriarch at the Marina Beach. Instead, Main Opposition was asked to prefer the 2-acre plot near Gandhi Mandapam, which is a memorial of Mahatma Gandhi. Earlier, CMs C Rajagopalachari and K Kamaraj were laid to rest here.

DMK Working President MK Stalin, his elder brother ML Alagiri and sister Kanimozhi met CM E Palaniswami hours before Kauvery Hospital doctors confirmed Karunanidhi's death. Initially, State Government responded positively but turned down the request later citing court cases against construction of memorial along Marina Beach. Rules doesn't permit construction activity or memorials within 500 metres from the water front.

DMK Cadre demands Tamil Nadu Government to permit burial of Karunanidhi at the Marina Beach. MK Stalin appealed party workers to remain calm and offer  their leader a peaceful send off.
