How Much Debt Does Telangana Have?

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao often claims Telangana is the richest state. What is the need for such a rich state to borrow loans to the tune of Rs 65,000 crore in a short span?

As per the data revealed by Finance Minister Etela Rajendar in Assembly, Telangana State have a debt of Rs 1,35,554.03 crore. Debt is up to Rs 70,000 crore until the bifurcation happened. In the past three-and-a-half years, KCR Government borrowed loans to the tune of Rs 65,000 crore. While Rs 40,000 crore were spent for Mission Bhagiratha, Rs 20,000 crore has been used for Kaleswaram lift-irrigation project.

In the financial year 2016-17, This debt resulted in a burden of Rs 8,609.19 crore in the form of interest on state exchequer.

TRS Government maintains that Loans have been borrowed as per the guidelines of Centre and state's economic growth. Will the high expenditure on the projects yield desired results?
