KCR wants it to be named after Abdul Kalam

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao appealed Centre to name the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) in Hyderabad after people's president APJ Abdul Kalam. The TRS Supreme wrote a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard.

In her letter, KCR mentioned how the research conducted by DRDO under the leadership of Abdul Kalam has helped India achieve self-reliance in the Defence sector. He also informed PM about the attachment Kalam had with the city of Hyderabad and felt naming DRDO after Hyderabad only inspires the future generations.

Kalam served as the director of DRDO for a decade. It was during his term, DRDO successfully launched missiles such as Prithvi, Trishvi and Akash. He was also instrumental in setting up  the Integrated Guided Missile Development Programme (IGMDP).
