TDP is a past-master in the art of U Turns. One only has to look at how the party had flip-flopped on the issue of special status to Andhra Pradesh. The ruling party, in its zeal to slam Leader of the Opposition YS Jagan had initially tried to suppress the movement for special status.
Later, when he realized that this was an emotive issue and could not be suppressed, Chandrababu took a U turn and began backing special status. He even withdrew from the NDA Government at the Centre. Instead of givng an explanation as to why he changed his stance, Chandrababu tried to cover up his flip-flop.
Now, Chandrababu's deputy chief minister KE Krishnamurthy has revealed why the TDP had agreed for a special package. He said that the TDP had agreed for a special package because what was promised under the special package was much better than what would one get in special status. But, Modi had not been giving what was promised and was not sanctioning funds. It was asking for several conditions to be fulfilled for releasing funds. It is because of this that the TDP had started talking about special status, he said.
Now one question that emerges from all this is if Modi promises something bigger, will the TDP make another flip-flop? Also, how did it trust Narendra Modi who gave nothing but a potful of water and some soil at the time of Amaravati's foundation laying works?
