Another political party is all set to muddle Telangana's political waters. Aam Aadmi Party, which has been in power in Delhi since 2015 and is quite a powerful political force in Punjab, is said to be planning to enter Telangana. Soon after the UP elections, the AAP leadership will focus on Telangana state.
According to sources, the party, which has specialized in winning elections in small states with small assembly constituencies, is of the opinion that Telangana could be its gateway into South India. Though AAP tried hard in Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, it failed to make a mark in caste-ridden, Dravidian-oriented politics of these two states. Hence it has decided to zero in on Telangana state, which is both small and does not have the ideological complications that Karnataka, TN and Kerala have.
AAP sources say that an NRI youth, who is currently busy working for the party in Punjab, is all set to be projected as the face of the party. The party has projected youths in Punjab and Goa and would adopt the same strategy of projecting this youth as the party's face. The youth, identified as Jaswanth Reddy would soon tour the whole state.
AAP currently has little presence in Telangana. Till last year, OU professor and former Communist PL Vishweswhar Rao headed the party, but could not make its presence felt in Telangana. As of now, former Congress leader Indira Shobhan is the spokesperson of the party. But, as of now , there is no activity of AAP in the state. Post-UP elections, the AAP is likely to focus on Telangana state. Let's see how the party fares in Telangana.
