Araku MLA Kidari Sarveswara Rao and former MLA Soma were gunned down by Maoists while they were on their way to villages as part of Grama Darshini programme.
As per a Telugu News Daily, Kidari Sarveswara Rao appealed CM Chandrababu Naidu to exempt him from Grama Darshini programme in August citing the threat from Naxals. However, CM insisted all the MLA and Constituency in-charges have to tour each and every village. Any sort of exemption has been ruled out for even the Araku MLA who received warnings from Maoists. With no other choice, Kidari decided to visit the villages in the agency region and paid the price.
A Senior TDP Leader hailing from Visakha disclosed CM didn't take the threat for Kidari Sarveswara Rao into consideration despite many appeals as elections have been approaching. TDP Leadership is yet to clarify whether if these reports in a section of media are true or not.
