Since our childhood, we have been hearing that the Kohinoor diamond which was owned by India was looted and the British took it with them. Queen Elizabeth used to wear it. After she passed away, we are talking about the precious diamond more. Amid this, the Kohinoor story took a new twist.
Ahead of the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II, a body which goes by the name Shree Jagannath Sena is saying that the Kohinoor diamond belonged to the Puri Jagannath temple and there is a need to bring it back. The outfit even requested Indian President Droupadi Murmu who was invited to Elizabethâs funeral to help it in this regard.
The organisation, which is based out of temple city Puri said that the Kohinoor diamond belongs to the Jagannath temple and Maharaja Ranjit Singh who was the king of the region then donated the diamond to the temple and since then it was with the temple.
The body said that, when the King defeated the Afghanistan King, he donated the Kohinoor diamond to Puri Jagannath temple. However, the Britishers took the diamond from the son of the Maharaja and it was taken to the British.
Saying the same, the Shree Jagannath Sena maintained that the Indian Prime Minister should look into this and take the required measures to bring back the Kohinoor diamond which belonged to the Temple.
"The Kohinoor diamond belongs to Sri Jagannath Bhagban. It is now with the Queen of England. Kindly request our Prime Minister to take steps to bring it to India⦠as Maharaja Ranjit Singh donated it to God Jagannath in his will," the body said.
