There is utter confusion in the Congress over who will become the next PCC chief. But even before that happens, key leaders are deserting the party in drones. Many leaders are announcing their resignations and are joining other parties. Earlier, it was the TRS which was a Congressman's favoured destination. Of late, it is the BJP.
There were also reports that Warangal's staunch Congress couple â Konda Surekha and Konda Murali â too are planning to join the BJP. The couple are at political crossroads. They were originally in the Congress Party and joined the YSRCP when Jagan left the Congress. Later, at the time of 2014 elections, they joined the TRS. Though they were in the TRS, KCR did not give them any importance. So, they left the TRS ahead of the 2018 elections and joined the Congress. Of late, rumours are flying thick and fast that the Konda couple is set to join the BJP.
However, both Surekha and Murali met Congress Telangana affairs incharge Manickam Tagore on Friday and clarified that they are not leaving the Congress. They said that they would remain steadfast to the Congress Party and that there was no question of joining the saffron party. They categorically told them that their first priority is winning Warangal Municipal Corporation. "This only means that they did not get the deal they wanted in the BJP. They did try to join the BJP, but the deal offered by the BJP was not to their liking. It's a case of sour grapes for them," remarked a Congress leader on condition of anonymity.
