The much-awaited Kondapalli Municipal Chairperson election in Andhra Pradesh was struck at the point on whether or not to take Telugu Desam Party(TDP) MP Kesineni Nani's vote into validation or not. As when everyone is waiting to know what decision will the court take in this matter, the issue saw a big twist.
Keeping everyone waiting, the Justice who is hearing the cases had transferred the case to the division bench. The decision was taken after the lawyer representing the Municipality made an argument with the Judge. Not happy with this, the Judge announced the decision of not hearing the petition.
As per the media reports, the Government Lawyer who was present in the Court for the hearing reportedly started an argument with the Justice that made the Judge unhappy. Due to this, the Justice had decided to not hear the petition, and the decision was informed to the Chief Justice of Andhra Pradesh High Court. As a result, the petition was shifted to the division bench.
The Division Bench of Andhra Pradesh High Court will hear the petition on Wednesday to hear the arguments of Andhra Pradesh's State Election Commissioner and Additional Advocate General on the behalf of the Municipal Department.
The Kondapalli Municipality elections have been in the news from the day of the elections. Earlier, the election was held amid tight police protection. Even the election was held as per the High Court orders. The opposition parties and a few contestants have approached the Court to seek directives from the court.
As per the Court orders, the election was held. Even the vote-counting process was a debatable issue as MP Kesineni Nani who represents the temple city Vijayawada was not granted permission to cast his vote as an ex-officio member. After a lot of suspense, he was permitted to cast his vote.
Even though he was permitted to cast his vote in the Municipality elections to elect the Chairman and Vice-Chairman, whether to consider Kesineni Nani's vote as a valid one or not reached the High Court and the court will take a call on this. We might get clarity on this tomorrow.
