Kovvur TDP's Group Rivalry Intensifies

Update: 2020-02-09 04:13 GMT
Despite being out of power, the internal squabbles in the Telugu Desam Party are refusing to die. Intense groupism and factionalism are ruling the roost in the party. In Kovvur constituency of West Godavari district, internal bickering are still on and are further weakening the already decimated TDP.

Despite the best efforts of former minister Pitani Satyanarayana and senior leader Pendyala Achibabu, the party unit in Kovvur appears to be deeply divided. The party's constituency level meeting on Friday was marred by staunch opposition to former minister and former Kovvur MLA Jawahar.  Anti-Jawahar faction had organised the meeting to demand that he be ordered to stay away from the party affairs in Kovvur. They demanded that Jawahar be confined to Tiruvur constituency, from where he had contested the 2019 polls.

It may be recalled that Jawahar was shifted out of Kovvur ahead of the 2019 elections and was asked to contest from Tiruvur in view of the serious opposition to him from the local cadre. The party had lost both Kovvur as well as Tiruvur due to the last-minute shifting. The Kovvur unit has resolved that it would work under the leadership of Pendyala Achibabu and demanded that Jawahar stay away from the party affairs in Kovvur.
