Telangana Municipal Minister K Taraka Rama Rao points out Kirloskar Committee appointed in the year 2003-04 mentioned in its report about 28,000 illegal constructions occupying lake beds and nalas. 'We require Rs 10,000 crore to provide rehabilitation to people living in encroached lands. If we arrest at least four encroachers, there will a change in the situation. Decision over expansion of nalas will be taken based on committee report given by GHMC Additional Commissioner and Hyderabad-Ranga Reddy Joint Collectors. Will increase the depth of Nalas depending upon the possibility,' he told.

KTR opined Land Acquisition Act 2013 is proving to be a headache for Government as land encroachers have been obtaining stay on demolitions  from the courts. 'We are exploring other options. High Court order issued in 2011 recommends demolition of illegal construction nalas. Even GHMC Act Section 11 permits razing of illegal buildings without prior notice. We would set up Town Planning Tribunal to deal with legal issues. A resolution will be passed in Cabinet Meeting on September 26th'.

The Minister informed technology that's being used in Brazil would be used to measure inflows and outflows of nalas. He told Bandari Layout in Pragathi Nagar got submerged only because of the illegal constructions.
