Lancet Study says, airborne transmission is a key way of Covid-19 transmission
A team of experts UK, USA, and Canada in their recent study have found out that, the novel Coronavirus causing SARS-CoV-2 virus is transmitted through the air. A piece of strong evidence to prove the argument was also found.
As per the new study published in the medical journal Lancet, the researchers have found out that the virus is spread predominantly through the air and people not wearing masks is making a way for the rapid spread of the virus.
A group of six experts from the United Kingdom, the United States, and Canada gathered crucial information that supports the argument that airborne transmission is the key form of transmission of the virus.
The experts are in the opinion that the virus gets transmitted indoors at a higher level compared to outdoors and estimated that people who don't cough or sneeze are the key spreaders of the virus.
With airborne transmission serving as the driving force of respiratory disease, silent transmission accounts for a major share of infections across the globe, researchers said in the study.
Its high time, the global health agency World Health Organization(WHO) should consider the scientific evidence and declare air transmission as a key way of transmission and take the required measures to coin this, the researchers said.
Adding further, the researchers urged that without any delay, the measures to counter this like wearing masks, handwashing, and surface cleaning should be implemented, or else the situation might turn even worse.
'It is quite surprising that anyone is still questioning whether airborne transmission is the predominant transmission pathway for this virus or not," aerosol scientist from the University of California San Diego, who served as the co-author of the study said.
