Left-Run Papers Slash Jobs On May Day

Update: 2020-05-01 04:08 GMT
Left parties – CPI, CPM are in the forefront of fighting for the rights of those who lost their jobs and are denied their rights. So, one expects that they would take care of the employees who work in their organisations.  But, taking cue from Corona crisis, even they have started removing journalists from their media organisatiions. And come to think of it. They have chosen the May Day, the world labour day, to do that.

The Left-run newspapers have announced a cut-down on their staff. For instance, CPM-run Praja Shakthi has cut down 40 per cent of their staff. They have been told not to come to the office from , ironically, May 1. Even the CPI-affiliated Visalandhra too has been terminating the services of many of its employees without giving any notice. Even in Telangana, the left parties are following the same trend. CPI-affiliated Praja Paksham has closed down its print edition and if reports are true, even the online edition has been discontinued.

Interestingly, some "capitalist" media organisations are moving heaven and earth to ensure that their employees are not put to any hardships. One such TV channel has provided "pick and drop" facility to all its employees due to the lockdown. At least five media organisations are paying their staff full salaries despite 40-day lockdown.
