It appears the BJP is trying to encircle Mamta Banerjee and push her to a corner with its political games. In what could be seen as a sneak peak of the things to come, the BJP has asked its chief minister for Uttarakhand Tirath Singh Rawat to resign his post. The reason? He is not a member of the assembly and if he cannot get elected within six months of becoming the CM, he will have to resign. His term is coming to an end and there is no way of getting elected to the assembly as the election commission is not in a position to hold elections.
Now there is a warning here for Mamta Banerjee. Mamta Banerjee is in a strange predicament. Her party has won over 200 seats, but she herself lost to Suvendu Adhikari in Nandigram. Now that she has been elected CM of West Bengal, she has to get elected before November. For an election to be held, the total process from notification to vote counting needs nearly 45 days. This means the notification needs to be issued by September end. The second wave of Corona has not totally subsided and the third wave is likely to begin in August or September. If there is a third wave by that time, Mamta's chances of getting elected to the assembly are remote. So, she may have to appoint someone else as the CM and rule by proxy.
Sources say that the third wave could subside somewhere around December. So, the elections could only be held only in February. This means she may have to run the government with the help of a proxy for at least three months. Much water would flow under the Howrah bridge by then and a lot of political developments could happen by that time.
