The Law Commission recommended reduction of minimum legal age for Men to get married. It wanted the legal age for Men and Women to be similar, 18 Years, alike the Indian Majority Act, 1875.
As per the Consultation Paper 'Reform Of Family Law' by the Law Panel, 'If Citizens have the right to choose their preferred Governments at the age of 18, They should be capable of choosing their Spouses at the same age. There is no basis for age difference for husband and wife in Law. Difference of 18 Years for Women and 21 Years for Men is like backing old practice that Wives must be younger than Husbands'.
As per the Criminal Law (Amendment) Act 2013, Sex with a Women under the age of 18 would be termed as rape. Even consensual intercourse has been criminalized if the girl is a minor ever since the Nirbhaya case.
If Centre brings the recommendations of Law Commission into an Act, Even Men can get married at the age of 18 and such a move advocates Gender Equality.
