Line cleared for 100 Smart Cities

Developing 100 Smart Cities by 2019 is one of the prestigious programmes taken up by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. It is intended to alter the Urban landscape of the country and boost economic growth.

Finally, Union Cabinet cleared the 100 Smart Cities project apart from Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) for 500 cities. The Cabinet  given its nod for spending Rs 1 lakh crore on these two Urban Missions in a span of 5 Years.

Smart Cities mission and AMRUT mission will receive funds to the tune of Rs 48,000 & Rs 50,000 crore respectively. Each Smart City gets Central Assistance of Rs 100 per Year. Focus will be on Drinking Water Supply, Sanitation, Waste Management, Public Transportation, Power Supply, IT Connectivity, e-governance, Affordable housing for poor, health and education. Efficiency, Sustainability & Accountability will be crucial in establishing Smart Cities.
