Madras High Court on Tuesday instructed Tamil Nadu police to abstain from arresting Actor-turned-Politician Vijayakanth till January 5th next year in connection with a case filed against him and 50 others for allegedly damaging a bus shelter in Thanjavur.

Vijayakanth's anticipatory bail petition came up for hearing Yesterday. Justive Chockalingam issued an interim direction on the bail plea asking cops to refrain from arresting the DMDK Chief.

Sometime ago, Vijayakanth and his followers damaged a bus shelter during a demonstration on Thanjavur. AIADMK MLA M Rangasamy representing Thanjavur lodged a complaint and a case was booked under Section 147 of IPC and Tamil Nadu Public Property Act.

However, Vijayakanth denied damaging public property during the demonstration. He alleged that the complainant has placed Jayalalithaa's portrait to provoke him and that's when he instructed his followers to remove the portrait.
