Public wondered whether Mahesh Babu is aware of the Tax Evasion charge levelled against him until his bank accounts were freezed. Fans assumed it could have happened because of the negligence of Mahesh's Team or some misunderstanding. Actually, That's not true as Superstar is well aware of it since 2010 and he choose not to pay the tax on remuneration accepted for showroom openings.
Hyderabad GST Additional Commissioner Anand Kumar issued a clarification on the freezing of Mahesh Babu's bank accounts over non-payment of tax. 'Mahesh Babu hasn't paid taxes on the remuneration he received for showroom openings and inaugurations of other business establishments. We served notices to him in the year 2010. An order has been passed in 2012 as he didn't respond to the notices. Then, Mahesh challenged the order against him in the Central Excise & Service Tax Tribunal. Still, He didn't get respite. In September this year, Mahesh Babu moved the High Court seeking a stay on the order passed by Tribunal. As the High Court didn't entertain the appeal, Hyderabad GST Commissionerate freezed the bank accounts of Mahesh Babu as per Section 87 of the 1994 Finance Act. We had recovered Rs 42 lakh from one of the accounts. Rest of the amount would be recovered from the second account,' he said.
Mahesh Babu shouldn't have dragged the issue till it has come to the stage of bank accounts freezing. He himself gave a chance for people to point fingers at him with this episode. Clean Image he used to have is more valuable then Rs 73.5 lakh...isn't it?
