7 Years Jail Term for Co-Director

Mahmood Farooqui who is the co-director of Bollywood flick 'Peepli Live' on Thursday sentenced for seven years imprisonment after he was convicted for sexual assault of an American Research Scholar last year.

Additional Sessions Judge of a Delhi Court Sanjiv Jain also imposed a fine of Rs 50,000 on Mahmood Farooqui. The amount would be paid to the Victim. If he fails to pay it, Mr.Mohmood should serve additional three months  imprisonment.

In addition, The Court directed the Delhi Legal Service Authority to take a call on the compensation to be paid for the Victim.

Actually, Delhi Police has see ken life imprisonment for Mahmood Farooqui on grounds that he has damaged the reputation of India. Based on the version of Defence Council that his client has been suffering from bipolar disorder and he had fully cooperated during the investigation, Judge ordered for a minimum jail sentence prescribed for the offence.

The victim told during the investigation that Mahmood Farooqui had raped her at his house in a inebriated condition when she has sought his help for the research. She also revealed about the e-mails sent to her by the accused apologizing for his unpardonable behaviour.
