Mamata, Mayawati skip Congress-led opposition meet

Congress party called for the all-party meet, over the political situation in the country. AAP, TMC, Shiv Sena, BSP parties did not attend the meet. NCP, LJD, Left parties attended the meet.  

The meeting was attended by Congress president Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ahmed Patel, NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, LJD chief Sharad Yadav, Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, Left leaders Sitaram Yechury and D Raja,  

The Congress said that invited all like-minded parties to attend a meeting. The main motive of the meeting is to finalise a joint strategy on the Citizenship Amendment Act, as the protest continues across the country.

In the last year, on December 17, opposition parties approached the president Ram Nath Kovind, seeking intervention on the issue of violence in the central university.   

The Aam Aadmi Party decided not to attend the meeting, as it is going to polls next month. West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and BSP chief Mayawati decided to staw away. Shiv Sena did not the meeting, as they did not receive a formal invitation.
